Scottish Wild Salmon registered as Proctected Food Name

Usan Salmon Fisheries Ltd, in association with the Salmon Net Fishing Association of Scotland and the Scottish Government has applied to have Scottish Wild Salmon registered as a Protected Food Name under EU legislation.  The application is currently out for consultation and we are very hopeful of achieving this distinguished award in the coming months.  We warmly welcome the support of Scottish Government in that Scottish Wild Salmon is being considered for this highly prized accreditation. Achievement of this award would provide proper recognition for this unique iconic Scottish product and the few remaining traditional salmon netters. Scottish Wild Salmon represents the highest quality of indigenous Scottish renewable produce, a fact recognised worldwide by both domestic customers and top chefs and restaurants. It is a centuries old Scottish tradition, though sadly, only a handful of Scottish salmon netting stations are still active. Survival of salmon netting is essential, being the only legal method of harvesting these fish for the enjoyment of consumers and very much a part of the fabric of Scotland.

The fish themselves are captured in a sustainable manner, using environmentally friendly methods, before reaching the customer in pristine condition. As a completely natural product, they are highly nutritious and represent the very best in healthy eating for the people of Scotland and our consumers abroad. Salmon netting is firmly established as part of Scotland's rich heritage and as such we are justifiably proud to be a part of it. We have the fourth generation of our family active in the business now and are very hopeful for a positive future. Small traditional industries like ours constitute the lifeblood of rural Scotland.
